WHY TAKING CONTROL WORKS
INVOLVE YOUR DOCTOR

When you have cancer or HIV you feel scared. Anxious. Helpless. Dealing with the mysteries of the health care system can make it worse. There’s that inevitable communications gap between provider and patient.

One way BrightOutcome makes you feel better, not just psychologically but also physically, is that you’re more in control. Instead of being passive, you’re an active and contributing member of your health care team.

But there’s scientific proof too.

Clinical research validates the patient-centered approach
Clinical studies have been made using BrightOutcome and other systems in which providers incorporate patient-reported outcomes into the care continuum.  For example:

  • Integration of self-reported symptoms improved physical, functional and emotional well-being (Velicova et al, 2004).
  • Daily home-based monitoring of self-reported symptoms resulted in fewer preventable hospitalizations (Chumbler et al, 2007).

See our Clinical Studies section for more details.

BrightOutcome: benefits to patients

  • Your provider has more information to make decisions (prescriptions, advice, etc.).
  • You feel better and function better as a result of getting the right care at the right time.
  • You can avoid unnecessary visits to your doctor office or even the emergency room, again because you get the right care at the right time.
  • Your appointments with your doctor are more productive because you’re better prepared; you’re speaking the language.
  • In the next version of the Treatment Tracker, we’ll be incorporating links to educational information that’s specific to your symptoms, so you can “self manage” more confidently.
