You want to provide more personalized care. You’re under pressure to improve outcomes at lower cost. You’d like to empower patients to self-manage. You’ve heard of the NIH initiatives to promote PRO, but you have not found a way to integrating it into your practice. BrightOutcome is the solution.
Easy integration
BrightOutcome is a multi-disciplinary solution built around the concept of patient-centric care. Patients report outcomes (symptoms and side effects) on the web or phone, using our cutting-edge adaptive surveys. Results are transmitted to your BrightOutcome Provider Module, which integrates patient reported data and meaningful clinical interpretations into your work flow (as task alerts, for example) and patient records. Status reports and assessments, by patient, are also automatic.

Outcomes of closing the communications gap
The provider/patient communications gap is well-documented.
For instance, in the 2001 clinical study by Fellows et al, there was little correlation between “Medical notes” on symptoms after Tamoxifen, and self-reported symptoms: 47% vs 91% for hot flashes, 21% vs 80% for weight gain, 8% vs 43% for fatigue, and so on. Another 2001 clinical study by Fallowfield et al showed a 34.7% misclassification rate for psychiatric morbidity experienced by cancer patients.
By systematizing PRO and integrating it into your workflow, we may improve outcomes such as:
- Quality time spent with patient versus wasted time
- Treatment adherence
- Physical functioning and well-being
- Symptom self-management
- Timeliness of interventions: address issues while still manageable
- Reimbursement issues
- Quality of treatment decisions
- Reduction of unplanned visits/ER
Clinical studies support patient-centric approaches using self-reporting and PRO. For example, Chumbler et al in 2007 found that “Daily, home-based monitoring of self-reported symptoms resulted in fewer preventable services, BDOC for hospitalization for all-cause & chemo.”
Our collaborators
BrightOutcome collaborates with about a dozen top-rated research and patient care institutions in product development/validation under many competitive NIH SBIR grants/contracts. Our customers are among the top 5 cancer research hospitals in the nation. We also work closely with the PROMIS Network, and NIH Roadmap project, to promote the use of PRO into mainstream clinical practice.
